Bayern Munich Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has opened up on Bayern’s pursuit of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer.

The Bundesliga champions came back for the 19-year-old again but just like two years ago, Chelsea turned down their proposals.

Bayern first wanted Hudson-Odoi back in 2018, but Chelsea stayed strong and convinced the youngster to stay and sign a new contract.

This time, Bayern felt they have had enough and focused on other targets as sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic explained to Sport Bild.

“There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: ‘We have to leave this immediately’,” Salihamidzic said.

“It is all the more important that one thinks about alternatives or alternative paths right from the start.

“We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens.”

The Champions League winners abandoned Hudson-Odoi’s pursuit and signed Douglas Costa on loan from Juventus.
