Brighton vs. Chelsea Preview with Predicted Line ups, Facts, and Prediction:
Excitement, Bonanza and thrill of Premier League return with full flow. Chelsea starts their campaign away at the Amex stadium. It’s a Monday night encounter which takes place at 8:15 PM (UK Time).
Brighton achieved their objective of survival in the previous season. Sacking Hughton raised a lot of eyebrows especially replacing him with an inexperienced manager at this level, but Graham Potter exceeded all expectations and completed all his objectives. Football played on some occasions by Brighton was sublime and beautiful to watch. They have good backups and competition in the Centre Back position along with an experienced midfield. The signing of Lallana will prove to be massive in their fight for survival. Extending contracts of Dunk and White only shows the good window Brighton is having. With already possessing young talented players like Connolly and Lamptey, Brighton is striving ahead in a good direction.
Another team having a window to remember which not only put them in a competitive position in present but driving them ahead in a good direction for what the future beckons them with. Chelsea has already signed Havertz, Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, Ziyech, and Werner. With attacking becoming more potent and with the defense getting the improvement it requires, it promises to be an exciting period for Chelsea fan. Achieving Champions League Qualification in the previous campaign was a necessity and Frank accomplished that. It wasn’t a Pretty campaign but Chelsea dug out the results and achieved their objectives which were aspired at the start.
Brighton: Potter has mostly all the squad fit for this important encounter except missing regular starter Propper. Other players missing are Walton and Izquierdo but they are not first-team regulars for Brighton.
Chelsea on the other hand will miss Hakim Ziyech who suffered a slight knock in the friendly against Brighton. Frank Lampard received a massive boost with Pulisic’s return to training after the hamstring injury he suffered against Arsenal but still he might not feature against Brighton. Chilwell remains out for the first match of the season but Havertz and Werner are expected to feature in their first match for Chelsea. Chelsea will also miss Kovacic through suspension he acquired against Arsenal in the FA Cup final last season.
Brighton have lots of good center-backs available but I believe Potter will keep the same backline he had last season and therefore Veltman and White will miss this match. They also have players like Bissouma in midfield but Potter will play experienced Lallana in my opinion.
Chelsea on the other hand, come into this fixture with just one natural winger due to unfit Pulisic and injured Ziyech. This could lead to Lampard utilizing Havertz instead of Ziyech on the wings while Mount plays in the midfield. Kai’s left foot will give their attack a different dimension.
Brighton: Ryan Webster Dunk Burn Lamptey Stephens Lallana March Connolly Trossard Maupay

Since Brighton’s Promotion in 2017:

Since Promotion, Brighton has won one while losing the other two opening matches of the season.
Chelsea since 2012, has won all their league openers at away ground except last season when they faced a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of United.
Chelsea was one of the most entertaining away sides in the league with them scoring 38 goals at away grounds but conceding 39 in the process.
Tammy Abraham was their most prolific away player last season scoring 10 goals away from home comforts.
Brighton struggled defensively against the big 6 sides with conceding 26 goals last season against the big 6. 50% of them have been conceded at home.
Brighton 0-2 Chelsea
Brighton are defensively well set at home grounds with conceding only 27 last season. 5 of them were against a rampant City team. Chelsea’s achilles heel last season was defensive structure and it has to be their biggest concern for this season. Clean sheets were at a rarity last season but in my opinion, they will start the new season with a positive outcome away from home. Brighton will remain tight but Chelsea’s attacking quality in form of Werner, Odoi, and Havertz will prevail them against a steady Brighton team.
