Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has revealed former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho blamed him for being sacked by Chelsea in 2015.
Mourinho joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for his second stint at the club and won the 2014/15 Premier League title for Chelsea but was sacked the following season in December 2015 following a run of nine games without a win.
Clattenburg said the Portuguese blamed him for his dismissal.
“Jose Mourinho did, in the end. He was hard work when he came back from Real Madrid, and well, I got him the sack at Chelsea,” he said, as picked up by Daily Star.
“Well, he blames me for getting him the sack at Chelsea – but I would say it was more all of the results before that, too.
“When he went to Manchester United, he was thinking the same thing – I’m going to get him the sack, so he was always anti-me.
“I was refereeing the game when Wayne Rooney broke Bobby Charlton’s record and Mourinho came into my dressing room and he was unhappy about a handball penalty that I didn’t give.
“I’d walked off that pitch at Stoke, which was always the coldest stadium, it was always wet and miserable, and refereeing Man United was never an easy match.”
