Edouard Mendy is set to be out of action for up to two weeks following a thigh injury he sustained on international duty with Senegal.

According to The Athletic, Mendy, who joined Chelsea for an initial £22 million last month, has already had an early diagnosis at a hospital in Rabat, Morocco which showed it is only a minor problem.

The report claimed it could be a hamstring strain contrary to early reports that suggested it’s a thigh problem.

The former Rennes star has since returned to Chelsea for further examination and treatment.

The club confirm the news in a statement released earlier today.

The 28-year-old is certain to miss the Premier League match at home to Southampton on October 17 with Kepa set to start in goal.

But he’s expected to be back for Chelsea’s Champions League campaign which begins at home to Sevilla three days later.
