Former Leeds United striker Neol Whelan has hailed Chelsea star Conor Gallagher for his outstanding performances in the Championship last season.

The Chelsea academy product is reportedly on the verge of signing for Crystal Palace on loan and Whelan knows Palace are getting a top player.

“Gallagher was really impressive when I watched him last season,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“He has great energy, likes to get on the ball and make things happen. He was a player that stuck out for me when Leeds were playing against Swansea. Very, very competitive and he knows his role inside out.

“He gets into very good areas and pockets in between the lines so it does not surprise me that Crystal Palace want him because he looked a different class of player in the Championship last season. He was involved in everything.

“He has come through the ranks at Chelsea and Crystal Palace are very close so I am sure they have watched him a number of times.”
