Former Manchester City star Niger De Jong has hailed the performance of Chelsea’s new goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.

The 28-year-old has been one Chelsea’s shining light this season, producing top performances, which has seen him record six consecutive matches without conceding a goal.

The Senegalese has conceded only one goal in his seven-match old Chelsea career which has not gone unnoticed.

De Jong hailed Mendy’s presence and confidence between the sticks.

“The boy just doesn’t want to let a goal in, does he?“, De Jong said on beIN SPORTS, as quoted by Inside Futbol.

“He looks the part though, the way how he is standing in goal, the authority that he has, the confidence that he has.

“It is good for the defence of Chelsea to know that they have got such a great goalkeeper behind them.

“I think Lampard can be very, very pleased to have a goalkeeper like him.“

The former Reims joined Chelsea from another French side Rennes for £22m in the summer.
