Antonio Rudiger could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, according to various reports.

Following the acquisition of Thiago Silva on a free transfer, it has become clear that the club are looking to offload at least one of their 5 central defenders in the first-team squad, with Frank Lampard left with a tough decision regarding who he should let go of.

According to Simon Johnson (The Athletic), Lampard has now made it clear that he prefers his other defensive options over Rudiger – who was left out of Chelsea’s matchday squad to face Liverpool on Sunday – and would be willing to let the German international leave.

It was previously reported that Fikayo Tomori looked likely to leave on loan this summer amid links to Rennes and Everton, but it appears that this is against his wishes and that the 22-year-old hopes to stay and fight for his place.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Alex Goldberg’s ‘The Byline’ podcast that if Chelsea had the choice they would sell Rudiger and keep Tomori, but they are currently receiving far more loan offers for the Englishman so a deal for him would be simpler.

However that does not mean that Rudiger would fail to attract any transfer interest should Chelsea place him on the transfer list, and Simon Johnson claims that “clubs are bound to make an enquiry for him”.

With 2 more weeks to go before the transfer window shuts on October 5th, there is likely to be plenty more transfer business in West London.

There could be several other departures from the capital apart from a centre-back, plus potentially the arrival of West Ham’s Declan Rice once the Blues have completed the signing of Edouard Mendy.

It has been widely reported that Frank Lampard is still keen on a new holding midfielder and that Rice is at the top of his shortlist, with an official bid expected in the next week or so.
