Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is a man under fire at the moment after another penalty miss in Chelsea 4-0 away win over Russian side, Krasnodar.
It was Jorginho’s second penalty miss of the season and also his second as a Chelsea player.
This has prompted questions over Jorginho’s reliability from the spot after Timo Werner scored Chelsea’s second penalty on the night.
Even though the Italy International wasn’t on the pitch when Chelsea were awarded another penalty, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said he will talk to the players and see what they think, which is more like an admission that Jorginho’s penalty standard has dropped.
“Jorginho has had an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalties in his career, particularly at Chelsea,” Lampard told the press after Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Krasnodar in Russia.
“My feeling is that when you take as many penalties as he does there can be periods when you can miss one or two. I’ve experienced that as a player.
“I’ve no problem at all with his style of taking them because of the success he has had and Timo Werner I know is very capable of taking penalties, as we saw. We have other players that can so I’ll talk with them afterwards to see how we move forward but we have good takers at the club.”
