Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has revealed his disappointment with Chelsea’s decision to release his long-term friend, Declan Rice as a youngster.

Mason and Rice were together at Chelsea academy before the club decided to cut ties with Rice five years ago.

Rice, who is currently playing for West Ham has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Chelsea this summer.

Mount said he never doubted him: “I knew what kind of player he was and what kind of person he was like,” he told Sunday Times.

“So I knew it wouldn’t stop him even if I didn’t agree with the way it happened.

“I knew as one of my closest friends that that wouldn’t be the end of him and he would work as hard as he could to get where he is.”
