Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has revealed he went against his father’s wish to stay at Chelsea as a youngster.

Mason Mount has been training at the club since he was six years old and signed at the Under-9 age group.

The 21-year-old who has gone on to become one of Chelsea’s most important senior players revealed how his father tried to discourage him from renewing his contract at Chelsea when he was 14 years old.

“I was around 14 and I was about to sign a new contract,” Mount told the Sunday Times, as quoted by Evening Standard.

“My dad always had questions because there weren’t many young players coming through. JT [John Terry] was the only one who really came through and had an unbelievable career.”

“I always believed that I would make it to the first team through hard work and determination and I didn’t let anybody get in the way of my focus.

“Even my dad when he had questions. I said I am going to stay here and work as hard as I can. I believe totally that I can make it to the first team and then go all the way.”

The England International finished the recently concluded English Premier League season with 7 goals and 5 assists in 37 appearances.
