Despite starting on the wings in most games for Chelsea this season, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is adamant he’s a number 8 and likes playing in midfield.

The England international was in form in midfield for Chelsea in their 3-0 victory over Burnley yesterday.

The 21-year-old told the club’s website after the match that he feels more like a number 8 than a winger.

“I am a No.8 and a midfielder,” he told Chelsea’s official website, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

“I have always been in my whole career, so it is natural for me to play in there and I know I have started a bit wider this season, but I love playing in midfield.

“It is my position and the fluidity we had in the game with the wingers [was good today].”

Mount was one of the best players on the pitch at Turf Moor, assisting Zouma’s goal from a corner-kick.

His all-round performance earned him Sofascore’s 8.2 rating, highest among all Chelsea players, just ahead of Hakim Ziyech on 8.1.
