Rennes President Nicolas Holveck has confirmed they are in talks with Chelsea for the transfer of goalkeeper Édouard Mendy but an agreement is yet to be reached between all parties.

Chelsea struggled to keep a clean sheets last season, mainly because of a leaky defense and an underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Lampard made it clear to the Chelsea hierarchy that he doesn’t trust Kepa, and since then Chelsea have been on the hunt for Goalkeepers.

After much deliberation, the blues decided to pursue Stade Rennais FC’s Edouard Mendy.

The 28 year old is expected to compete with Kepa for the starting spot. Chelsea hope this will instil confidence in Kepa and he’ll start performing well.

Petr Cech is at the forefront of this operation. As an ex-Rennes player he has contacts with the club and is working on the deal behind the scene.

Rennes President’s confirmation of Mendy to Chelsea rumours means the deal is in a much advanced stage. Chelsea are confident of completing a deal for Edouard Mendy and the player wants to play for Chelsea as well.

As stated earlier, after Edouard Mendy Chelsea will look to sign a defensive midfielder and West Ham’s Declan Rice is on the top of Frank Lampard’s list.
