It is no secret that every top club in the world wanted Kai Havertz. Many clubs have talked to him about a possible move in the past but he ended up joining Chelsea, how?

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all held talks with Havertz at various stages to explore the possibility to play for them but it was Chelsea who landed the services of the German international.

According to The Athletic, One of the reasons is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Chelsea had the required finances because they did not spend anything in the last season due to their transfer ban.

Combine that with player sales and Chelsea had a treasure chest to spend on incoming transfers. Bayern, Man Utd, Real Madrid all tried to bring him in but all of them failed because they either wanted to wait one more year for the finances to stabilise or were looking at someone else.

Havertz did not join Chelsea because it was his last option, he was attracted by the vision of the club. Lampard phoned him several times to talk about Havertz’s role in the club and the club’s ambition.

Havertz’s desire to join Chelsea became stronger by the day and finally, he decided to join up with the Blues.
