Reliable German publication Sport Bild has detailed why Bayern Munich failed to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer.

The Bavarians were heavily linked with Hudson-Odoi but failed to agree a deal with Chelsea before the end of the transfer window.

Sport Bild explained:

“Bavaria’s interest in the Chelsea jewel has long been known. Last weekend, however, it got hectic again. Munich went on the offensive, at this point Salihamidzic had already phoned Chelsea sports director Marina Granovskaia (45) several times.

“The Russian is considered a tough negotiating partner. Salihamidzic felt that: After Hudson-Odoi had played for Chelsea against Crystal Palace (4-0) in the evening, there was another phone call between him and Granovskaia. It should be the last: The transfer from Hudson-Odoi broke again!

“There were major differences in the design of the loan agreement: Chelsea wanted to include various clauses, including a penalty if Hudson-Odoi does not play enough games – and a purchase obligation of €77 million if he had reached a certain number of games.

“The loan would have turned into a solid, costly transfer from the outset if Hudson-Odoi had come on board. The Bayern could use common sense and broke on Saturday evening the talks off!”

The Bundesliga champions abandoned Hudson-Odoi’s transfer to sign Douglas Costa from Juventus.
