Thiago Silva is a great central defender, well known for his leadership skills, aerial ability, tackling, pace, interceptions, passing accuracy, and distributions.
After the Legendary John Terry, we’ve struggled for a complete central defender, Andreas Christensen hasn’t been consistent, he’s too fragile and lacks leadership skills, Antonio Rudiger is too error-prone but great with the ball at his feet just like Christensen, Tomori is still young and needs lots of experience at the top level to be a Chelsea player. Zouma was outstanding last season albeit few games where he was also a suspect.

Overall, with an experienced CB, Zouma and Christensen could perform well. With lack of many quality central defenders in the market, Thiago Silva, even at 35 years old could be the answer needed for our defensive struggles for a season or two.
Looking at what Thiago will bring to the table:
First and foremost, Thiago will bring a wealth of leadership skills that we’ve lacked for a long time. Our backline desperately needs someone who communicates to other defenders what to do and make sure the defensive organization lacks nothing. The aura of Silva’s type of centre-back will make everyone around him listen to his instructions.
Secondly, Last season we conceded a lot of goals from set-pieces and corner kicks, and that shows we greatly lack aerial presence and defensive organization but with Thiago coming in and Zouma who is also good in the air, then aerially we should be fine because, with Thiago’s organizational skill, no one will lose concentration around him.
Thiago Silva is a player who likes to play safe and ensure the team’s safety first. He doesn’t showboat like some defenders, he’s loyal and always committed to his job, something most our defenders lack presently. He could yet be our very own Van Dijk who will ensure the project Lampard’s building to be a success.

At 35, many of our fans could think he’s past it but no, he’s still got plenty in the tank to offer. Look at his performances this season, especially in the Champions League against the likes of Atalanta, Leipzig who are attack-minded teams. He stood toe to toe with their attackers, intercepted well, won aerial battles and was also good on the ball. His calm presence and reading of the game are top-notch and his aggressiveness when man Marking is great.
Should this transfer go through, he’ll save us lots of pounds this summer before we can be able to get a young quality centre back next summer and remember, we’ll also be welcoming a Cristiano Ronaldo type Centre Back in Thiago Silva. This move will be a great one.
