Thiago Silva’s agent, Paulo Tonietto has confirmed that PSG made last-minute effort to extend Thiago Silva’s contract but it the Brazilian turned it down.

Silva completed a one year deal with an option for a further year with Chelsea. His agent revealed it could have been different.

“He was no longer hoping because Leonardo told him two months ago that he did not want to extend it,” Tonietti told L’Equipe, cited by RMC.

“But last Tuesday Leonardo called Thiago and raised the possibility that he would have another year left. Thiago has already agreed with Chelsea, he couldn’t go back. When you make such a proposal, you have to be convinced of it.

“A sporting director who tells a player he doesn’t want him anymore, and two months later he wants to prolong it, how to take that?.

“Tuchel always wanted to keep Thiago. The one who didn’t want to was Leonardo, and he’s the one who has the power. That’s why, even though he hadn’t signed with Chelsea, Thiago didn’t see how he could have accepted the proposal.

“Leonardo saw what he had told him two months earlier. It would have been humiliating”

The 35-year-old centre-back is currently on holiday and is likely to stay out of Chelsea’s opening 20/21 Premier League match against Brighton.
